About Adam Zwar
WRITER, actor, producer, and voice artist Adam Zwar is one of Australia's best and most prolific comic minds.
Originally a news journalist, he became more committed to acting in his 20s, securing roles in television series, commercials, and theatre.
In his early career as a performer, Adam appeared in Neighbours, SeaChange, Stingers, and Blue Heelers.
But his big break came after he created, wrote and starred in the 2002 Tropfest award-winning comedy short, Wilfred, alongside Jason Gann.
The film is about a man who befriends his girlfriend's dog Wilfred, played by Gann in a dog costume.
Adam proceeded to make two series of Wilfred for SBS in Australia, personally winning Best Performance in a Television Comedy at the AFI Awards. The show won two additional AFIs for Best Television Comedy Series, and Best Screenplay in Television.
It was picked up by FX in the US in 2011. Adam worked on four original American series of the show, also starring Jason Gann, but with Elijah Wood in the lead role of Ryan.
In the US version, Ryan and Wilfred are neighbours.
FX's Wilfred won the American Society of Cinematographers' Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography in Half-Hour Episodic Television Series honour, and Best Music Supervision for Television at the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards.
Adam created and wrote comedy TV series Lowdown - which he starred in as the lead, journalist Alex Burchill - Mr Black, and Squinters.
As a passionate cricket follower, he presented Underarm: The Ball That Changed Cricket and Bodyline: The Ultimate Test.
He featured in the iconic, quotable HBA Health Insurance TVC, Three for Free as the main buck-toothed "fwee for fwee" guy, and has also had roles in Underbelly, Howzat! Kerry Packer's War, Rake, Party Tricks, Tangle, Rush, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, and Top of the Lake.
Adam wrote and hosted the Agony series, including Agony Uncles, Agony Aunts, The Agony of Life, and The Agony of Modern Manners on the ABC, which featured the talking heads and views of many well-known Australian media personalities.
He was a writer on sketch comedy series The Wedge, an episode of Stan original series No Activity, and produced sketch show This is Littleton.
Adam's book, Twelve Summers: Being a lifelong fan of Australian cricket is harder than it looks, was published by Hashette in 2021.
His interview podcast, 10 Questions with Adam Zwar, launched in 2015 with first guest Dave O'Neil and is produced by Nearly Media.
Adam has written for upcoming TV miniseries Darby and Joan.
