Hermes’ banjo

I’m posting this for anybody who listens to this week’s episode (Wed 9th 2024) of BEDTIME STORIES WITH R.A. SPRATT. It’s a picture of an urn from Ancient Greece, that depicts Hermes playing his home-made lyre. Because there was a skin stretched across the tortoise shell (as described by Homer, and that’s the Ancient Greek poet, not the character from the Simpsons) I maintain that this “lyre” is the world’s first banjo.

Merchandise is now available!

Merchandise is now available! Fans of the BEDTIME STORIES WITH R.A. SPRATT have been asking for merchandise for years. I’ve finally sorted it out. I’ve set up an online shop with Threadless. You can order tshirts, sweaters, stickers and coffee cups in a variety of colours, all with this design celebrating the podcast. So please do buy something to support the show and celebrate four years of storytelling. Xoxo R.A.

Anniversary Celebration Q&A

To celebrate the 4th anniversary of the ‘Bedtime Stories with R.A. Spratt’ podcast and the 10th anniversary of the ‘Friday Barnes’ series, I asked listeners to send me their questions. Here’s the video of me answering them all. It is a long video. There were a lot of questions. I’m sorry if I missed yours. It got a bit hectic.

Awesome chat with Radio New Zealand

I just had the best time chatting with Kathryn Ryan at Radio New Zealand. I thought we were going to talk about Hamlet and we did but we talked about so much else as well. If you want to hear it there’s a link https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/ninetonoon/audio/2018924137/children-s-author-r-a-spratt-on-writing-comedy-for-a-young-audience.

Come and see me talking about Hamlet

I’m taking part in an evening of discussion about Hamlet at the State Library of NSW. The Bell Shakespeare Company has assembled a host of experts including Peter Evans, Lucy Bell, Toby Schmitz and amazingly, me – to discuss the influence and interpretations of Shakespeare’s HAMLET.

Bell Shakespeare Associate Director, James Evans will facilitate the discussion on Thursday 12 October from 6.30pm.
