Episode notes

Today's guest is at the top of his fields. Yes, fields, with a plural.

He quickly became a very good friend after I appeared on his podcast, Consciousness is All There Is, and we spoke about the spiritual and consciousness sides of AI. It was such an incredible conversation that I just had to have him on Slo Mo for all of you. I'm so glad I did, and I think you will be too.

Dr. Tony Nader, MD, PhD is a medical doctor trained at Harvard University, a PhD in neuroscience from MIT, and a globally recognized expert in the science of consciousness and human development. He's the successor to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and the head of the Transcendental Meditation organization globally.

He is a highly accomplished medical researcher and was appointed assistant director of clinical research at MIT and a clinical research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

In his new book, One unbounded ocean of consciousness, Dr. Nader comprehensively examines what scientists call the “hard” problem: “What is consciousness?” He unpacks this abstract question for both a general audience and experts in the field by investigating consciousness in terms of human physiology, quantum mechanics, and the more ancient Vedic science.

Listen as we discuss:

  • How Dr. Nader and I met on his podcast.
  • Dr. Nader's upbringing in war torn Lebanon that brought him to ask deep questions.
  • His apprenticeship with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi that led to his succession.
  • What is Transcendental Meditation (TM) and how do you do it?
  • The purpose of the mantra and why trying is prohibited.
  • Exploring the hard problem of consciousness.
  • Consciousness comes in ranges but is the fundamental building block of everything.
  • Tony's one piece of advice to tap into the highest state of the human.
