Peter Russell - Embracing the Natural Pace of Human Life

Listen on

Episode notes

Today's guest is the speaker, teacher, and author, Peter Russell, a leading thinker on consciousness and contemporary spirituality. He has studied theoretical physics, experimental psychology, and computer science at the University of Cambridge, and meditation and Eastern Philosophy in India. Talk about refining both the left and right brains.

Peter coined the term "global brain" with his 1980's bestseller of the same name in which he predicted the Internet and the impact it would have on humanity. He is also a pioneer of personal growth programs, having taught corporations and senior management on principles of creativity, stress management and sustainable development. He is the author of ten books, including Waking Up in Time and From Science to God: A Physicist's Journey into the Mystery of Consciousness.

Listen as we discuss:

  • One of my favorite topics as of late: slowing down
  • Just how small humanity's collective and individual lifespan is on a universal scale
  • How culture is exponentially accelerating, figuratively and literally
  • The resistance that all forces traveling at fast speeds eventually reach, including us
  • Taking more responsibility for ourselves against the belief that the more you have, the happier you’ll be
  • Reaching a state of happiness without conditions
  • The ideal pace at which humanity can move
  • The struggle to remain optimistic about the evolution of the Global Brain
  • The Network of Humanity
  • Science's biggest questions: What is the universe made of? What is consciousness?
  • "Consciousness is that which knows, but we don’t know what consciousness is"
  • From Science to God - Peter’s journey from hardcore scientist to "believer"
  • Convincing the neuroscience community to study consciousness (see Dr. Dan Siegel)
  • Why referring to God as a noun is a misconception in Peter's view
