VW unveils new ID concept that previews its upcoming ~$24,000 electric car. Tesla and Volkswagen are currently competing to bring to market the first new affordable electric cars in the ~$25,000 to $30,000 price range. 

This is the first time a vehicle based on the MEB has front-wheel drive. With its 172 kW (234 PS) electric motor, the ID. LIFE accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, while its 57 kWh high-voltage battery enables a range of some 400 kilometres (WLTP).

  • DENMARK IS SET TO REACH 100% RENEWABLES BY 2030 

Renewable power generation (excluding hydropower) in Denmark is expected to nearly double by 2030. The share of renewables in the generation mix is already quite high, at 86.4% as of 2020, and it is set to grow to 99.9% in 2030.

  • Germany, the world’s 4th largest auto market, saw plugin electric vehicle share jump to a record 27.6% in August, over 2x growth in share year-on-year. Non-electrified combustion vehicle share fell to a record low 53.2% with diesel at 17.7%. The overall auto market was down some 38% from 2019 levels .
  • Sweden’s plugin electric vehicle market share hit 47.1% in August 2021, up over 1.6x from 29.0% in August 2020. Full electric vehicles took a record high 24.1% share of new sales, slightly ahead of plugin hybrids, due to recent incentive adjustments.
  • Rooftop solar powers almost 30% of Australian homes and could meet 77% of total grid demand by 2025 as citizens tire of coal and gas power's unreliability and high prices
  • In the ongoing Canadian election campaign, The Liberals are now promising a ZEV mandate of 50% of all passenger vehicle sales by 2030. (They've previously been somewhat reluctant to make this promise, which auto industry lobbies against. The Conservatives are actually promising 30% by that date but no one believes them. We don’t.
