Referees around the world have been blowing their whistles to protest their treatment.

In the last five weeks alone there have been referee strikes in Cologne, Berlin, and Uruguay. In Uruguay, it caused a postponement of first division matches last weekend. Recently there have been cases of alleged assaults on referees in Nigeria and England.

Today we hear from a referee who has allegedly been physically assaulted and speak to Tom Webber (@DrTomWebb) about why England has one of the worst records of referee abuse in Europe.
