Becoming Eve with Abby Stein

Listen on

Episode notes

'I prayed to God to make me a girl'. James and Dan are joined from New York by Abby Stein - the first woman and the first transgender woman to be ordained as a rabbi by an orthodox institution. She talks about her life growing up in a strict community, coming out - first as non-religious and again as transgender - and offers a ray of hope to LGBTQ+ people trapped by orthodox institutions. Abby is the first openly transgender woman raised in a Hasidic community, this is her story. For more information on leaving orthodox communities visit Footsteps.org (USA) and Mavar.org (UK).
