Episode notes

044: Gladys Pizarro.

Gladys Pizarro is the co-founder of iconic house music label Strictly Rhythm. Growing up in Spanish Harlem in New York City, Gladys was exposed to a melting pot of music and, based upon her underground clubbing credentials, landed herself a job at funk and soul label Spring Records. Recognising the burgeoning house music scene, alongside Mark Finkelstein, Gladys co-founded Strictly Rhythm - a label that helped launch the careers of superstars such as Roger Sanchez, Armand Van Helden and Louie Vega. With her excellent connections and ear for a great track, Gladys presided over many releases that are regarded as genuine anthems today. In this conversation we find out how she got to where she is today, how some of the most recognisable songs in house music were created and her exciting plans for the future.
