Episode notes

In the first post-Tour de France episode of The Cycling Podcast we report and reflect on the tragic death of Bjorg Lambrecht. The Belgian rider crashed during Monday's third of the Tour of Poland and died in hospital. Lambrecht was only 22, he rode for WorldTour team Lotto-Soudal, and he was tipped for great things.

We hear from Belgian cycling journalist Jan-Pieter De Vlieger about Lambrecht and the reaction to his death in his home country.

We also discuss the Clásica San Sebastián, won by Remco Evenepoel, the 19-year-old who after this win was described by Cyrille Guimard, the legendary French directeur sportif, as being "Merckx plus Hinault with a blend of Bernal and [French footballer Kylian] Mbappé." De Vlieger tells us a bit more about Evenepoel and the hype that now surrounds him in Belgium.

And there's more reflection on the Tour de France and the eye-catching documentary on Thibaut Pinot broadcast by French television last week.
