Episode notes

If you're stuck for something to do in and around Guildford over the next few days, we're here to help!

Guildford is one of the most vibrant towns in the UK with plenty going on and this Briefing (the first of its kind in the UK) will tell you what's happening and where. From comedy to classics, sports to sculpture, plus all sorts of theatre, music and arts - and for locals and visitors of all ages - this is your free daily update to help you make the most of Surrey's county town.

(Each Briefing is about two-minutes' long. Please add us to the top of your daily Briefing list, and we'd be grateful for a review, and hopefully five stars!. You can do that on our page on the Amazon Alexa app, or your usual Amazon account.)

The WHAT'S ON IN GUILDFORD Briefing is endorsed and supported by these great local groups:

VISIT GUILDFORD - Surrey's only Tourist Information Centre, where you can book tickets and find out about places to visit, eat and stay. Open seven days a week in the summer and six days a week in the winter, on the High Street just near the Guildhall clock. http://www.visitguildford.com

GUILDFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL - Guildford is the county town of Surrey, and administered by the borough council. The town (not a city!) is known for its historic cobble-like setts on the High Street, its historic town clock and newer additions of university and cathedral. https://www.guildford.gov.uk/

THE NATIONAL TRUST - the charity look after places such as historic houses, buildings, gardens and countryside. Locally that includes locations such as Box Hill, Clandon House, Hatchlands, Dapdune Wharf, Claremont, Polesden Lacey and Winkworth Arboretum. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/days-out/regionlondonsoutheast/surrey

THE YVONNE ARNAUD THEATRE - The theatre located in Guildford is named after the actress Yvonne Arnaud, and presents a series of locally produced and national touring productions, including opera, ballet and pantomime. http://www.yvonne-arnaud.co.uk/

THE GUILDFORD BOOK FESTIVAL - Established in 1989, the Festival is recognised as the premier literary event in the South East. Over eight days, world-renowned authors and illustrators discuss their newly-published fiction and non-fiction books at a series of events across the town. As well as dozens of events, talks and discussions there are creative writing workshops and school visits. http://www.guildfordbookfestival.co.uk

THE GUILDFORD FRINGE FESTIVAL - Guildford's open-access, multi-arts, multi-venue festival. Each June/July the line-up includes comedy, theatre, music, poetry, burlesque, exhibitions, children's shows and much much more. http://www.GuildfordFringeFestival.com

WHY THE PURPLE LOGO?

You may have spotted our logo of Guildford Castle is ringed in purple. That's because Guildford is the only town in Surrey to hold the trusted Purple Flag Award, and one of only 70 in the UK. It's the night-life equivalent of Blue Flags for beaches, and means your evening out in Guildford will be vibrant, diverse and above all, safe.
