We talk about the first idea for the story, and how it developed from many ideas Harriet had for another story that never quite made it. We also chat about how she knows what her role is as a commercial novelist, how that affects her writing and storytelling, and why for her editing is the most important part of the whole process - and that, in fact, many other authors could learn to tidy up their work a bit more!
