97: A Mark Noble love in

Listen on

Episode notes

West Ham have stayed up.

Barring a mathematical miracle and a goal difference swing of about 7,000, the Hammers will be playing Premier League football again next season.

The 3-1 win against Watford at London Stadium on Friday all but guaranteed the club’s safety but perhaps more importantly it marked Mark Noble’s 500th West Ham appearance.

Noble became just the tenth player in history to reach such an impressive landmark for the club and what a man he is.

Will Pugh is joined by Tom Edwards and James Jones for a well deserved Mark Noble love in and they discuss – among other things – whether anyone will ever achieve such a feat again.

West Ham’s legendary academy director and friend of the podcast Tony Carr has known Noble since he bought him to the club when ‘Mr West Ham’ was just a kid and he joins the boys to give some insight into the Hammers captain and his journey from academy prospect to cult hero.

Carr also issued a plea to Declan Rice and implored him to stay at the club for another season amid interest from Chelsea.

Roshane Thomas – West Ham correspondent for the Athletic – also came on to discuss his fantastic feature piece on Noble he wrote in the build up to the Watford game.

Roshane spoke to Gianfranco Zola for the tribute and the Italian compared Noble’s intelligence with that of Italy legend Andrea Pirlo.

This cracker of an episode still found time to fit in an opposition preview ahead of the Irons’ game at Old Trafford on Wednesday with Man Utd fan and former presenter of the Man Utd fan show on Love Sport Radio Matt Beadle.

And of course the rogue mystery players quiz!

This is a blinding episode as we approach the end of the season, great guests, great banter and two great things to celebrate.
