Episode notes

Matthew Layton presents Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view.

On this week’s show…

Matthew’s guest on this episode of Studio 1 - Robin Millar, Commander of the British Empire - has had a number of careers - record producer, businessman and campaigner for vulnerable people to name but three

He’s excelled at all of them.

As a record producer he produced over 160 gold and platinum selling records for artists including Eric Clapton, Sting, The Grateful Dead, Everything But The Girl, Big Country and Fine Young Cannibals amongst others.

As a businessman, Robin’s Blue Raincoat Chrysalis Group publishes music, manages artists and releases records. In the course of this interview, Robin explains a couple of the reasons they outperform industry giants Sony and Universal.

Somehow, along the way he’s also managed to become an Honorary Professor at the London College of Music and a Visiting Professor and at The Royal Academy of Music and The University of Modena in Italy.

As if that weren’t enough, he also happened to produce the Atlanta Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in 1996.

But today he’s here in his new role as Chairman of UK Disability Rights charity Scope, and, as you’re about to find out, he’s quite good at that too…

Robin gives us an incredibly impassioned and eloquent fist waving campaign statement on behalf of people who have suffered more than most in the last year or so, and a call to arms to employers the world over to understand and implement genuine equality in their workplaces.

If you’re touched by anything Robin saysor if there’s something else you think we need to talk about, we’d love to hear from you.

Your experience may be of help to someone else going through the same thing.
