Episode notes

Matthew Layton presents Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view.

On this week’s show…

Matthew’s guest this week is semi tame celebrity chef Tony Broun

Tony is actually in the second phase of his career as a food communicator.

The show starts with a clip of young, swashbuckling Tony of Yore in action cooking with high heat and flames, but these days he does things a little differently.

He has to. After a series of complicated health issues (which we have no need to go into here) Tony lost a substantial amount of his sight - which meant he couldn’t do things the way he used to.

But after losing his mojo for a while, Tony realised that the old way was not the only way and now he dedicates himself to helping others to gain confidence in the kitchen again after sight loss.

Tony has been on the show before.

Last time he came on, he taught us how to cook a curry using only our senses of touch, smell, hearing and taste.

The way he described the process was so evocative and empowering…

Well, we decided we wanted to unmask the man behind the legend.

So today we shall be trying to dig out the stories that made Tony the man he is today.

And he’ll be giving us some tips on cooking for Christmas when you can’t see very well.
