Episode notes

After meeting Amanda G through the powers of the internet, getting to guest on her amazing podcast Near and Queer To My Heart — a podcast for more than just the piece you get of a performer on stage, a place for queer people to tell their stories, a space for really getting to know them — I got to have her on this podcast!

Amanda is an extremely talented comedian based in New Orleans and is joined by fellow comedian Abbey Isaacoff in this episode speaking about finding your people through comedy, connecting with people who love and accept you as you are from the get-go, and creating those spaces where you see that need.

Comedy is a world that I (Lauren) had worked in for many years and it could be for me, a very heartbreaking, very male-dominated, very heteronormative place, but it was also the place I found my voice and got to explore my queerness for the first time. So I really enjoyed picking the brains of Amanda and her passion for creating a community — for queer people and their allies, as well as hearing about her coming out experience in the dark.
