In this episode of the Track Limits podcast, we are joined by one of the recognized sim racers turned driver, James Baldwin.

In this episode, we’re thrilled to have James, the British esports star turned professional racing driver. Known as “the World’s Fastest Gamer,” James has carved out a unique path, blending his esports mastery with a growing career on the real-life racing circuit. At just 26, he’s already competed in the British GT Championship, earned a seat on the Mercedes Esports team, and continues to prove his versatility and skill behind the wheel.

We discuss James’s journey, starting with his early love for karting at just eight years old, where he won five national championships. By 2018, James had taken up sim racing as a hobby, but his passion quickly became a profession. In 2019, he landed his first paid contract, which led him to leave his job and pursue esports full-time.

James recalls his close call in the ESLR1 Championship on Rennsport, where he was just two corners away from victory before an accident dropped him to third, and he shares what it was like to go head-to-head with F1 champion Max Verstappen during the Sebring 24 Virtual, pulling off a memorable overtake in the high-stakes virtual race.

In addition to recounting these career highlights, James dives into the future of sim racing and whether esports drivers can bridge the gap to real-world racing, a leap he’s successfully made.
