In Joseph's new book, Cold War Country: How Nashville's Music Row and the Pentagon Created the Sound of American Patriotism (pick up your copy at Friendly City Books or at the launch event April 2 at Munson and Brothers Trading Post) he traces the economic and symbolic connections between popular music and the U.S. military during the Cold War.
Cold War Country places particular focus on the country music industry’s role in military recruitment since World War II to show how the relationship between genre and militarism helped create the sonic and political color lines of the late twentieth century.
