Today’s guests are women Betknowmore UK have had the privilege to not only work with
but, support on their journey as they recovered from gambling harms.

Lisa Walker originally joined the charity to train as a volunteer Peer Supporter as part of our
Peer Aid programme. After volunteering for a year, she was offered a part time role as an
outreach worker.

During her time in outreach, Lisa saw her own story replayed with countless female clients
she worked with. Having struggled with gambling harms for 16 years, finding herself
homeless with two children, alone and lost, Lisa finally decided to break the strong hold of
her addiction and attend a GA meeting; making the promise to never look back.

Knowing first-hand how difficult it was for her to find help and support, Lisa decided; silence
was not an option. With the support of Frankie Graham, the CEO of Betknowmore UK, the
idea to design a woman only support group was given the go ahead and New Beginnings
was born.

Working with Liz Riley - Head of Research and Leanne Downie Head of Support Services the
ladies worked tirelessly to construct a project that worked with and for women experiencing
gambling harms, using Lisa’s lived experience and knowledge to construct a 10-week
Program.

Today, Lisa is the Lead Facilitator for the New Beginnings service, campaigning as a pillar,
advocate and support for women experiencing gambling harms, she affectionately remarks
‘this is my dream come true.’

Christine Tolani, once a service user of New Beginnings, has bravely fought and overcome
her gambling harms and co- morbidities to now work part time as an outreach worker,
working alongside Lisa to run the online program to women across the UK.

Join Abi, Lisa, Christine, and Liz as they discuss the untold truth many women are faced with
when overcoming the stigma as a woman in recovery. Delving into their own personal
stories and research to provide tried and tested advice about relapsing, experiencing
gambling harm and most importantly where and why it is important for women to receive
the help they deserve.
