Episode notes

The Mass in B minor is one of Bach’s most important works - but it wasn’t composed as a single piece, and he never heard it performed! It’s particularly special to The Bach Choir because without it, we wouldn’t exist - we were formed 150 years ago to give the first ever UK performance of it. In this special anniversary episode of Change Your Tune, our Musical Director, David Hill, takes you inside the Mass to discover why it still resonates with audiences all around the world.

Our special guest is award-winning stand-up comedian Aidan Jones, whose next show is all about Bach and his music. The Guardian called his current show - Chopin’s Nocturne - “side-splittingly funny”.

You’ll hear illustrations from The Bach Choir throughout and special messages from Sir John Rutter, The Wellermen and film composer Harry Gregson-Williams.
