Everything is Black and White - a Newcastle United podcast
Chronicled: The History of NUFC | Episode 11: 1933-39: Relegated for the first time
Episode notes
After five league titles and three FA Cup wins Newcastle United's fortunes take a dramatic dip in 1934. The club suffer a shock relegation and get stuck in a Second Division rut.
They come agonisingly close to a humiliating relegation to the third tier of English football in 1938 but survive by less than a tenth of a goal via the old goal average system.
The club are still stuck in Division Two by the time World War II breaks out.
Theme music by Tom Ramsey.
