#65 Pt 1 – How Not To Get Your Dream Job: Comedy Films, Book Of Mormon & Beernuts Productions With Gough

This week marks the return of Gough from Beernuts Productions for a chat that is not only inspiring, but funny too! Gough is the first legally blind person to write, produce, direct, edit and act in a feature-length film (plus many other releases) and currently creates comedy films with his company Beernuts Productions!

In part 1 of their chat, they discuss Gough’s new film “How To Land Your Dream Job”, how it was made and some of the creative ideas that went into it, followed by a discussion on The Book Of Mormon (as Gough saw it shortly after their previous chat), Gough & Mike then discuss marketing for their respective projects before talking about the timeline Gough adheres to when making one of his films.
Gough then talks about some of the crazy people he’s met who were inspirations for some characters in the new film, followed by making comedy universally appealing, Gough’s views on social media before finishing part 1 off with the importance of quality content and being an independent creator.

In part 2, Mike & Gough discuss Gough potentially making a sequel to his documentary “I Will Not Go Quietly”, some of Gough’s favourite music, TV shows & podcasts, how Gough met his friend Simon who has helped with all of the recent Beernuts releases, some of the social issues Gough likes to explore in his comedy, how Gough dislikes people telling him and anyone else how to live their life, the importance of humour in all walks of life, how people should follow their dreams and much more!

Mike spoke with Gough for episode 48 of the podcast, where they talk about some of Gough’s favourite comedy shows & influences, how Gough lost his eyesight, some of the issues that arise from being an indie director as well as more processes involved with being legally blind, the comedy styles (of his homeland) Australia, how everybody has a talent, Gough’s stand-up career, his experience in the industry before Beernuts and so much more, so if you enjoyed this chat, be sure to check that one out too!
