New Aural Cultures presents PhDCasting 2: Application for Registration. Illustrator/Researcher Johanna Roehr

Listen on

Episode notes

PhDCasting aims to be research through podcasting practice. Jerry Padfield documents his personal reflections of a journey through a PhD at Falmouth University, researching #podcasting and #CommunityRadio practice for wellbeing. The podcast talks about the experience of completing a PhD, from the perspective of a research student: the milestones, the emotional highs and lows, and also becomes a research tool in itself, interrogating the embodied knowledge within the practice. Each episode also features a conversation with a practitioner discussing issues around podcasting and broadcasting.

Quarter Two: January 2019 - March 2019

PhD progress continues with monthly workshops. The Application for Registration process starts to get real. An explanation of what that is for anyone who isn't a PhDer at Falmouth/UAL. A little talk about Imposter Syndrome - it's real and you'll experience it if you do a PhD (and aren't a psychopath).

This episode's guest is Johanna Roehr, who is an illustrator and animator whose work strives to develop a visual language that communicates intangible content and concepts that are difficult to grasp and whose current practice aims to destigmatise neurological conditions. She also has a show on the community radio station, Source FM, called Guilty Pleasures.
