He eventually goes into management and has a rude awakening when he realizes he cannot manage others the way he likes to be managed. They were not motivated by the same things.

When Ian realized his mood, identity and happiness were completely tied to his performance at work, despite having a wonderful life outside of work, he made more massive changes. He joined a $20,000 Mastermind and his income tripled, his marriage strengthened, and he found happiness in other ways. He invested in himself, his growth, and not just professional achievement.
