Episode notes

Sometimes it's psychotherapy that delivers us a mental or emotional breakthrough. Sometimes it's some random 'bogan' on a train.

Dare I say this brief encounter with a stranger on a train was the catalyst for Matt Caruana moving beyond his suicide attempt (the one that left him to live life in a wheelchair at 16) and healing the wounds that lead him to believe that ending his life was the answer.

It’s safe to say that out of 249 episodes this is one of the few that pulled at my emotions the most. Matt shared with me his harrowing experience as a young suicide attempt survivor. Thoughts first entered his mind at 12 years old. 12 years old and 'worthless' (so he believed). He dabbled in drugs, that didn't work. He dabbled in the gym, that didn't work. So after four years of deliberation Matt snuck out his bedroom window, made his way to the local shopping centre and threw himself off a 35m high building, landing on the concrete below and being found the next morning as tradesmen made their way to work.

Listener discretion is advised as we hear the details of how Matt felt, processed his emotions and moved through this experience. If this episode brings anything up for you please reach out and speak to someone.

I believe that people like Matt are a gift and in sharing his story and inner most feelings I hope that others can draw the realisation that they are not alone and even when it seems like it isn't so, life can be turned into something wonderful.
