Episode notes

How many of us have had the dream to pack up our lives and to move to a remote island in Scotland….or anywhere. The opportunity arose for Phoebe Brookes, she was living what we have been sold as the idea of success. A good job in London, a flat and as she says “a life surrounded by things”. However shortly after she had bought her first home in London, she was suddenly faced with a leaking roof followed by an unexpected redundancy. What do you do when the life you thought you wanted begins to crumble? Many of us have faced that moment, and it is so often a choice. We can stick with the status quo, find another job and carry on, or take the opportunity to chase that whisper that we have always ignored.

In this episode, we talk about what it’s really like to move from the city to an island, the practicalities we all need to know and the unexpected yet beautiful benefits. This conversation was an inspiring one, and I almost packed my bags and moved to Arran, after this episode maybe you will too.

Bio

Phoebe Brookes is a freelance writer and content strategist who, for over a decade, has been working with brands to create content that connects and make their words count. Phoebe enjoys bringing clarity to complex subjects, and this passion has led her to diverse industries — from single malt whisky to data storage. Alongside her freelance work, Phoebe writes Island Tales, a newsletter that celebrates her move from London to the Isle of Arran in Scotland. In Island Tales, Phoebe chronicles her new life on Arran, exploring her connection with the island’s landscape, wildlife, and the people who call it home.

Episode 10

Next week we will be joined by Emma Simpson . Emma is an award-winning debut author, wild swimmer and tea sommelier. Her first book, Breaking Waves, is being published in March this year and explores the beautiful and unique relationship of women with water around the world, demonstrating the primal powers of humanity and connection in an increasingly complex world. Emma is just such a wonderful soul, and I blame her completely for the unwavering belief that I can write a book. There are 101 reasons to listen to this episode, but if you are a wannabe author I really recommend it. I cannot wait for you to listen.
