Today I am joined by Lauren Mustill, an experienced HR and Talent professional who has had a lifelong obsession with nature, the environment and plastic pollution.

Lauren retrained in sustainability with Cambridge University CISL and qualified in Business Sustainability Management, she also studied the circular economy with the Ellen Macarthur Foundation and is part of The Carbon Literacy project.

Lauren is now using her HR and Sustainability passions and knowledge to help HR teams and individuals take action to avert a climate crisis and this has led her to create Grasshopper a consultancy that works with SMEs to make sustainability strategies easy, fun and impactful.

Key Learnings:

  • Strategic Importance of Sustainability: Integrating sustainability into HR strategy is crucial as it aligns with company values, enhances brand reputation, and increases employee satisfaction.
  • HR's Role Against Climate Quitting: HR is critical in preventing climate quitting by embedding sustainable practices into the company culture, thereby retaining employees committed to environmental values.
  • Effective Engagement Projects: Employee engagement in sustainability is best achieved through hands-on projects like recycling initiatives and green certifications, which provide clear and tangible benefits.
  • ESG Integration and Benefits: Businesses that integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors see improvements in operations, compliance, and innovation, attracting both better talent and investments.
  • Balancing ESG with HR Duties: HR can effectively handle ESG tasks by applying organisational skills to prioritise eco-friendly initiatives that align with business operations.
