Listen on

Episode notes

When people think of Northern transport as a political issue, generally their minds turn to trains - and there's certainly no shortage of issues to discuss there.

But in this special episode of The Northern Agenda podcast, we're going to talk about buses, the form of transport used much more frequently in the North every day than trains and for many people representing a lifeline getting them to work, school or vital social contact.

Northern Agenda editor Rob Parsons speaks to a passenger and wheelchair user who relies on buses to help her get her son to school, a senior bus industry leader who fears passenger numbers may never return to what they were pre-pandemic, and a senior Labour politician who warns that if action isn't taken all we can hope for is managed decline on our vital transport networks.

The podcast will also reveal the results of an exclusive survey of bus passengers in the North by the Northern Agenda.

Guests include:

๐ŸšLouise Haigh, shadow transport secretary and Labour MP for Sheffield Heeley

๐ŸšJohn Dowie, director of partnerships at the First Bus group

๐ŸšGeorge Torr, local democracy reporter based in Sheffield

๐ŸšSnoof Kattekop, an artist and educator based in Liverpool
