The Community ft. Christina Brown - How can peer-support help with perinatal mental illness?
Episode notes
How did one woman use her perinatal mental illness to pivot her mum community and help thousands of people and address disparities in care for diverse communities?
Christina Brown discovered she was expecting her second child on maternity leave. With a distressing experience and two little ones to care for, she struggled with her mental health. After feeling let down by services, she turned to her own online community to discuss mental health and the Motivational Mums Club embarked on a new mission.
In this episode Chrissy opens up about her journey creating a support group empowering mothers and birthing people to make better choices and advocate for themselves. She shares her personal journey as a mother, and she and Sally discuss issues around racism, intersectionality and the disparities in healthcare still sadly affecting parents today.
