Episode notes

Episode 14 of season 2 is here but first I want to say a huge thank you to the hundreds and hundreds of you that are tuning in week in week out, listening to people’s stories on their mental health challenges and most importantly, never judging anyone who comes on this podcast for the shit in their life.

Now onto this week’s episode and I’m so pleased this man has come on and shared his story with me today. Will Hurrell is an ex professional rugby player, having played for the likes of Bristol Bears, Bath and Leicester Tigers. He has an unbelievable story which he’s laid bare in this episode.

A story of alcohol abuse, mental health battles to playing his way up from National League 1 to being considered in the England squad as an abrasive and hard ball carrying centre. However, in January 2020, Will suffered a stroke whilst playing again Leicester Tigers at Welford Road after taking a big hit on the head.

Will had to retire from rugby because of the injury sustained to his brain and has suffered agonising headaches, dizziness, loss of memory and more because of the stroke.

This is Will’s story, what happened that day at Welford Road and how Will has overcome his battles with his mental health.

Will Hurrell, welcome to The Rut my friend… as always, please leave all judgment at the door.
