Skyrocketing rent has millennials thinking of leaving the big city

Listen on

Episode notes

Toronto has recently been deemed less affordable to live in than London or San Francisco. And as the average cost of rent in the city is expected to climb another 7 per cent this year and rental vacancy rates are the lowest they’ve been since 2002, many people are grappling with whether they can continue living here. Journalist and playwright Graham Isador joins the show to share his experience with Toronto’s rental market — having lived in 10 different apartments in 13 years — and the toll that this housing insecurity has taken on him and the city he fell in love with.
