Episode notes

A previously classified contract which lets the US essentially ground F35 fighter jets operated by the German air force has been uncovered by German media. It has added to European fears about how its hostile relationship with Donald Trump might be leaving it vulnerable in its attempt to rearm and stand up to Russia. The Times’ Berlin correspondent Oliver Moody explains why the US nuclear arsenal might explain why Washington DC still has such control over the jets, and whether Europe has any choice other than the F35.
