Episode notes

How should you navigate the media?

As your professional profile grows, so will the opportunities to appear across different media outlets. But, unlike politicians or the Royal family, you’ll probably never have had official media training prior to your appearances.

To help us all be better prepared, I’ve invited Guy Clapperton to chat to me about the dos and don’ts of media appearances. Guy offers a media training service that helps build confidence and competence for people who need to talk to the media. He and his team are experienced as media practitioners across print, web and broadcast media and help sharpen messages, reduce padding and confusion and ensure your words are framed so the journalist isn’t tempted to edit or “massage” them.

Guy has experience of being that journalist as he started in the trade press in 1989, going freelance in 1993 and contributing to the Guardian’s technology section and more. He has spoken internationally and done a small amount of broadcasting as well as having books published.

Tune in to find out how to prepare for media appearances, what to do if you’re uncomfortable with how you’ve come across in the press and Guy’s take on how press and media has changed in the world of social media.

So, let's get stuck in…
