Dementia Research Charity Chatathon
Making care homes great places, providing great care and great homes - Part 2
Episode notes
On the 7th September 2020, Adam Smith hosted the Dementia Research Chatathon LIVE - to share information on the wide variety of research taking place across the world, and the raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK. Please continue to donate and help Adam meet his £5,000 target - details can be found at http://www.chatathon.uk.
In a way that everyone can understand, this video features Adam talking with:
Claire Surr, Professor of Dementia Studies, Director of the Centre for Dementia Research, Leeds Beckett University. Claire works in dementia care and services research. She recently completed the DCM EPIC Study, What Works Study (components of effective dementia training) and CanDem Study (experiences of cancer treatment and care by people with dementia) - @clairesurr Dr Laura Booi, Research Associate, Newcastle University. Laura's research brings together international dementia advocacy, and patient-public-involvement, engaging both the next generation of dementia focused leaders as well as marginalized, often unheard voices affected by dementia. As a trained social gerontologist, she has spent the last dozen years working towards understanding and making long-term residential care for dementia better for those working and living in this sector - @DementiaHealth Dr Victoria Shepherd, Research Associate, Cardiff University. Victoria is involved in the design and conduct of clinical trials, with a particular interest in the methodological aspects of care home research. Her research primarily focuses on addressing the ethical and practical challenges of involving adults who lack capacity to consent in research, and developing interventions to support decision-making by consultees/legal representatives - @VickyLShepherd
